Seafarer Valentine Project 2010
During the month of February port chaplains of the Jacksonville Port Ministries will begin giving Valentine gifts to the international seafarers. You are invited to participate in this Valentine Project. Here is what you can do:
Recently Anita and I were sharing about the Jacksonville Port Ministries with a ladies group in a local church. In a conversation after the meeting, we were asked by a lady if the ministry needed computers. Our answer was yes, because the ones we have are older models. She shared that the auto dealership where she worked was closing and perhaps would donate some computers to us. Well, the next day we were able to pick up 4 computers for the seafarers to use in emailing back home. It really is amazing how God provides!
Thank you for your prayers and support of this ministry.
In Need of a Friend and the Lord
Chaplains Charlie & Marie Brown
We visited one of the ships that comes in every three weeks. On this occasion the chief cook was the first one we met. He said he needed a friend and someone to talk to. As we talked, he shared that he was married, had three children, and his mother was sick with cancer. He wanted prayer for all his family and other seafarers on the ship. As we talked about spiritual matters, he invited Jesus to be his Savior. We gave him some literature and biblical study guides to help him in his relationship with Christ.
As we came through the gate a security guard wanted to talk with us. She was very sad and down. She shared with us about her personal and family problems. We prayed and told her to keep on praying and looking to God for help. A few days later we saw her and noticed she had a much better look on her face. She said things were beginning to get better. Prayer does make a difference!

Each Day is Exciting
Chaplains John & Barbara Arnett
As we begin each new day with the Jacksonville Port Ministries we never know how God will use us to proclaim His glory. On one particular day, while accompanying some young seafarers shopping, one young man got back into the van and told me he needed urgently to see a doctor. He was visibly upset, anxious and nervous, almost to tears.
We sought help at a local Urgent Care facility and during the long wait talked about his relationship with God. I asked if he knew Christ. He said, “no,” but listened as I told him about Jesus and he accepted the saving grace of Christ while others were listening to us. Several people in the waiting room said “Amen” along with me as we ended our prayer.
When the young man came out from his visit with the doctor, the first thing he said in broken English was, “I’m okay, God is good.” His medical condition was not as serious as he first thought and we thanked God for that news. On our return to his ship, this new believer promised to email me and let me know how his life is going. I pray he will be a positive witness for Christ with his shipmates, in his own country, and as he travels.
We are encouraged and feel blessed to be a part of this ministry that reaches many seafarers from around the world.
